Here's a Baker's Dozen List of Tips to Help Maximize Your Points
1. Register your email address online (this is no longer valid)
You'll get special advance notices and coupons. Tell -a friend Events are announced through the email as well.
2. Children over 16? Get them a card of their own.
Points can be transferred between people, so get each child over 16 a card, to get points on their prescriptions and maximize points at special shopping events. (varies with each province.)
3. Have Younger Children?Get extra points on items and special coupons by signing up for the Very Important Baby Program.
4. Buy Shopper's Drugmart Gift Certificates for Friends or Yourself!
Buy a Shoppers Drug Mart gift cards before shopping and use it for purchases.Points are issued when you buy the card, AND when you use it.Shoppers Optimum Points are usually only issued for Shoppers Drug Mart gift cards. Occasionally, there is a special promotion on other gift cards, so watch for these. (Section13)
5. Get points on your prescriptions.(Varies with Prov.)
Points for your prescription* are added to your balance within 24-48 hours after your prescription is filled. These points will show on your cash register receipt, the next time you shop. You may only accumulate points for prescription drug purchases filled in your name, and your children under age 16. You can't get points on prescriptions with codeine or with certain drug plans. (Call Customer Service to check.)Points are not awarded on prescriptions in Quebec
6.Check your points online.
Shopper's Optimum Points are like money in the bank. Keep a close eye on them especially after purchasing special bonus items ,prescriptions, or special bonus shopping days, Check your points 2 days after any of the above to be sure they have been added. If you are missing points,call their Customer Support Centre. Call 1800 SHOPPER

7. Save your Points
By Saving your points, you increase their value. (15,000 pts =$25, but 30,000 = $55)
8. Do your Level Best
If you need to use your points, don't lose any. Points can usually be redeemed for $10, $25. $55, $75 or $150. (Once in a while they have other special promotions) If you are at the $25 level, buy $25 (before taxes) or tell the cashier you only want to redeem $10 otherwise you will lose the difference. (Section 27)
9. Get Points Back and Extra Specials
Become an Optimum Plus Member before redeeming at the top 2 levels. If you are an an OPM and redeem 40,00 you get 5,000 back. 75.000 get 10,000 back)
OPM's also get occasional bonus specials too.
How to become an OPM: Earn 10,000 before July 1 of any year. OPM is good for the year you earn it, plus the following year.
10.You can't Take 'Em with You
Leaving the country for a year? Feeling Poorly? Entering hospital? Transfer your points to another family member before it's too late. When you're gone your points are too. (Apparently their system thinks you're gone if you don't participate for 12 months!) Click HERE to Transfer Points.
11. Take part in Tell-A -Friend Events!
12. Buy Bonus Points Items and shop on Bonus days. On bonus days when you are required to spend $x to get y bonus points, use only free product coupons.
13. Get a Shoppers Optimum Credit Card Collect Optimum points with all your purchases. I don't usually recommend credit cards , but you can get points much faster.
